Cambodian Paralympic Committee Celebrates the Nation's Achievements in Disability Sports

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: The National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC) recently showcased the Royal Government of Cambodia's commitment to fostering inclusivity for individuals with disabilities, including athletes, across Cambodia and the ASEAN region.

During a special ceremony held on February 15, the NPCC acknowledged the significant achievements of Cambodian para athletes. The event, which took place at the Ministry of National Defence, was presided over by General Tea Banh, a distinguished member of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King and former leader of the Cambodian SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games Organising Committees (CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC).

Yi Veasna, the Secretary General of the NPCC, emphasized the organization's accomplishments under the auspices of former Prime Minister Hun Sen and the Royal Cambodian Government. Thanks to their support, the NPCC has gained full membership in the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF), the Asian Paralympic Committee (ASPC), and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). This membership has opened doors for Cambodian para athletes to showcase their talents on both national and international stages.

The ceremony also highlighted the presentation of Hun Sen’s and Bun Rany Hun Sen's awards to the coaches, assistant coaches, and para athletes who triumphed at the 11th ASEAN-Para Games in Indonesia.

Cambodia's participation in the 11th ASEAN-Para Games marked a significant milestone for the country's athletes with disabilities. Moreover, as hosts of the 12th ASEAN-Para Games in 2023, Cambodia's para athletes achieved remarkable success, securing a total of 70 medals, including 9 gold, 18 silver, and 43 bronze, showcasing the abilities and professionalism of Cambodians with disabilities on an international level.

The NPCC's efforts to promote inclusivity and recognize the achievements of Cambodian para athletes underscore the country's commitment to supporting all individuals, regardless of their abilities.
